Purpose

BalangAI Strategic Security Institute exists to advance informed understanding of peace, security, governance, and strategic issues affecting the Philippines, Southeast Asia, and the broader Indo-Pacific region.

This Content & Editorial Policy explains how BalangAI governs what it publishes—to ensure rigor, responsibility, and trust in public discourse.

BalangAI publishes to inform, not to provoke; to clarify, not to inflame; and to contribute to long-term strategic understanding rather than short-term attention.

Editorial Authority

All content published on BalangAI is subject to editorial review and approval.

The BalangAI editorial team retains final authority over:

  • Acceptance or rejection of submissions
  • Requests for revision or clarification
  • Editing for clarity, structure, tone, and consistency
  • Timing and format of publication
  • Removal or correction of content when warranted

BalangAI does not outsource editorial judgment.

Quality and Substance

BalangAI publishes content only when it meets the following standards:

  • Substance over style
  • Clarity without oversimplification
  • Evidence-informed reasoning
  • Respect for historical accuracy
  • Professional tone appropriate for policy, academic, and civic audiences

BalangAI does not publish for volume, virality, or engagement metrics.

Sensationalism, clickbait framing, and superficial commentary are not acceptable.

Accuracy and Intellectual Honesty

BalangAI distinguishes clearly between:

  • Fact – verifiable claims that can be supported
  • Assessment – reasoned judgments based on evidence
  • Opinion – values-based positions
  • Hypothesis – ideas requiring further validation

When errors are identified:

  • Corrections will be made promptly
  • Updates may be issued as new information becomes available
  • Substantive revisions may be noted where appropriate

Accuracy takes precedence over speed.

Safety, Ethics, and “Do No Harm”

BalangAI addresses topics where careless publication can cause real-world harm. Content must not:

  • Disclose classified, restricted, or operationally sensitive information
  • Reveal tactics, vulnerabilities, or patterns that could enable violence or wrongdoing
  • Identify private individuals in ways that expose them to risk
  • Provide detailed “how-to” guidance for harm, sabotage, or illegal activity

BalangAI reserves the right to redact, delay, or decline publication on safety or ethical grounds—even when information is technically accurate.

Independence and Non-Partisanship

BalangAI operates as an independent, non-partisan institution.

  • Content is not influenced by political, commercial, or partisan interests
  • BalangAI may critique policies and institutions but does not function as a campaign tool for any party or candidate
  • Diverse viewpoints may be published, provided they meet BalangAI’s analytical and ethical standards

Conflicts of Interest

Contributors must disclose relevant funding, affiliations, consulting relationships, or personal involvement related to their submissions.
BalangAI may add editorial notes for transparency.

Sponsored Content

If BalangAI publishes sponsored or supported content, it will be clearly labeled.
Support does not determine conclusions.

Use of Artificial Intelligence (AI)

BalangAI uses AI as a professional support tool, not as an independent author.

AI May Be Used To:

  • Assist in drafting and structuring content
  • Improve clarity, grammar, and accessibility
  • Summarize long-form material (with verification)
  • Create explanatory visuals and multimedia content

AI Must Not Be Used To:

  • Generate original strategic positions without human oversight
  • Invent facts, sources, quotations, or historical claims
  • Replace practitioner experience or expert judgment
  • Publish content without editorial review

AI outputs are treated as draft material.
Human expertise remains the compass.

Media Ethics and Intellectual Property

BalangAI respects intellectual property and ethical media standards:

  • Copyrighted material requires permission or valid licensing
  • AI-generated visuals must not misrepresent real events as documentary evidence
  • Images or videos presented as factual must be clearly sourced
  • Content that imitates living creators in misleading ways will not be published

Community Standards

If BalangAI enables comments or community interaction, the standard is simple:

  • No hate speech, threats, harassment, or incitement
  • No doxxing or targeting of private individuals
  • No spam or coordinated manipulation

BalangAI may remove content or restrict participation to maintain a serious, professional environment conducive to informed dialogue.

Enforcement and Editorial Action

To protect integrity and credibility, BalangAI may:

  • Edit published content for clarity or safety
  • Add editorial notes or context
  • Correct or retract material when necessary
  • Remove content that violates this policy
  • Decline future submissions for repeated violations

These actions are taken to protect both contributors and readers.
