Focus Areas

BalangAI Strategic Security Institute focuses on peace, security, and governance issues affecting the Philippines, Southeast Asia, and the Indo-Pacific. Our work emphasizes policy-relevant analysis, institutional learning, and public understanding.

Peace and Conflict Studies

We examine the causes, dynamics, and consequences of conflict, including insurgency, radicalization, and political violence, as well as approaches to conflict prevention, peacebuilding, and reconciliation.

National and Regional Security

We analyze internal and external security challenges, maritime and territorial issues, alliance dynamics, deterrence, and the evolving strategic environment in the Indo-Pacific region.

Reserve Force and Total Defense

We study the role of reserve forces, civilian participation, and whole-of-society approaches in strengthening national defense, disaster response, and societal resilience, particularly in archipelagic contexts.

Civil–Military Relations

We focus on the interaction between armed forces, democratic institutions, and society, including professionalism, accountability, public trust, and effective civil–military coordination.

Governance, Resilience, and Development

We assess how governance systems, institutions, and development policies influence security outcomes, resilience to crises, and stability in conflict-affected and vulnerable communities.
